Vision To Learn launched in Charlotte, North Carolina in April 2018 at Thomasboro Academy, with broad support from the local community. Through this new initiative, Vision To Learn, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and the Mecklenburg County Health Department will collaborate to provide free vision screenings, eye exams and glasses to students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary for Policy and Operations Christen Linke Young, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Clayton M. Wilcox, Vision To Learn Charlotte Co-Chairs Hugh and Renee McColl, and music mogul, philanthropist Percy “Master P” Miller participated in the event at Thomasboro Academy, where 95 students received glasses.

Vision To Learn plans to work with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the Mecklenburg County Health Department to serve schools throughout the district. More than 14,000 children in Charlotte are estimated to go to school every day without the glasses they need to see the board, read a book, study math, or participate in the classroom. Across the state, Vision To Learn estimates that 140,000 North Carolina students need glasses.
