Louisiana

In April 2018, Vision To Learn launched a pilot in New Orleans, providing eye exams and glasses to students at Foundation Preparatory Charter School. This effort, which provided 29 eye exams and 23 pairs of glasses, demonstrated the potential for a city-wide Vision To Lean program in New Orleans.

Participating in this event were music icon and New Orleans’ favorite son, Percy “Master P” Miller, and Orleans Parish School Board Member Ethan Ashley. Mr. Miller said, “When I was asked by Austin to join VTL and help this worthy cause, I knew immediately I wanted to jump in and do my part. I share Austin’s vision on the importance of providing children with necessary tools to succeed.”

Of the 46,000 K-12 students in New Orleans, an estimated 6,000 go to school every day without the glasses they need to see the board, read a book or do their math homework.

The pilot was funded in part by Healthy Blue, and with support from Essilor Vision Foundation.
