In June 2018, Vision To Learn launched a program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The kickoff event at Pittsburgh King PreK-8 was attended by Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Anthony Hamlet, Pennsylvania Executive Director of the Children’s Health Insurance Program Patricia Allan, Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, Vision To Learn President Ann Hollister, and emcee’d by Vision To Learn Pennsylvania Co-Chair Bruce Gebhardt.
Vision To Learn works with more than two dozen school districts throughout Southwestern PA, and partners the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, UPMC Children’s Hospital and local community groups to provide visits during the summer across the region. We have visited more than 100 locations throughout Armstrong, Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, and Washington counties, and provided free glasses to more than 7,000 kids in the Pittsburgh area.
Vision To Learn’s work will continue growing throughout the Pittsburgh area, expanding service to Fayette, Greene, and Westmoreland counties in 2021. An estimated 30,000 kids in Southwestern Pennsylvania need glasses and don’t have them.
