Vision To Learn’s first electric vehicle is now on the road in Detroit. Our new Ford Transit EV, delivered earlier this year, is an important step as we continue to grow and strengthen our fleet.
As our program expands, replacing aging vehicles has become a priority. Many of our older clinics are past their useful road life, which leads to higher repair and maintenance costs and, more importantly, lost days serving students when a vehicle is in the shop instead of at a school.
Electric vehicles are a strong fit for how we operate. Our clinics typically drive short distances but remain parked at schools for several hours at a time. Instead of idling on diesel fumes, this vehicle runs clean throughout the school day and returns to its charging station each night with plenty of battery left.
This shift also allows us to serve students and families in new ways. Because the vehicle produces zero emissions, we can bring care into spaces like gyms or recreation centers, rather than asking families to wait outside in the heat.
With support from Ford Philanthropy, this vehicle is a meaningful step toward our goal of transitioning up to half of our fleet to electric over the next two to three years. If it proves successful, there is an opportunity to continue expanding our electric fleet in the future.
