Newsletter, Winter 2018-2019

December 20, 2018

Greetings!

2018 has proven to be a breakthrough year for Vision To Learn. We exponentially increased the number of children we helped by providing them the glasses they need to succeed in school and in life; we built new partnerships to improve our community reach; and we added two new states to our roster — North Carolina and Pennsylvania — bringing our total to 13.

To continue this important work, we rely on your support. As you plan your end of year giving, please consider Vision To Learn. We hope your holiday season is a bright one!

Best wishes,
Ann Hollister
President, Vision To Learn

WORKING TOWARDS HELPING 60,000 KIDS IN LA UNIFIED. In January 2018, Vision To Learn kicked off a partnership with the LA Clippers and Los Angeles Unified School District to provide every LA Unified student, grades K-12, with the eye exams and glasses they need. This school year alone, we’ve already helped more than 12,000 students, bringing our total to 20,000. We are excited to be on track to reach our goal.

HELPING KIDS YEAR ROUND. Vision To Learn’s work doesn’t stop at the end of the school year. Our mobile clinics helped kids all summer long at nearly 100 Boys & Girls Clubs, Dodgers RBI events, summer camps, health fairs, and summer library programs. In the summer of 2018, Vision To Learn provided nearly 5,000 pairs of glasses just in time for the new school year.

CLOSING THE 2 MILLION GAP. Across the country, more than 2 million children who need glasses do not have them. Vision To Learn works to close that gap by going directly to the kids, visiting them at schools and community organizations. In the past year, Vision To Learn started programs in Maui HI, Windward Oahu HI, Grand Rapids MI, Flint MI, Charlotte NC, and Pittsburgh PA, and completed our project in Newark NJ, helping every elementary and middle school student in collaboration with HKI ChildSight.

NEXT UP: San Diego CA, Washington D.C., and Charleston SC
