Young Scholars in the Outfield

June 29, 2019

It’s always a great day for baseball! In the summer months, Vision To Learn works with The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation at their Reviving Inner-City Baseball (RBI) summer programming. This program helps get kids engaged in baseball and softball, while also offering community support in the form of health, education, and recreational resources for young Angelenos and their families all over the county.

In what has become a summer tradition, Vision To Learn again had the pleasure of participating in RBI PlayerFest this year. On June 29th, Vision To Learn was on site in our mobile clinics, where we provided 65 eye exams and prescribed 51 pairs of glasses to some of the young players.

Hundreds of RBI program participants gather for the annual PlayerFest event each year, where kids and families from all over Los Angeles County participate in baseball and softball clinics at Dodger Stadium, meet some of their heroes, and bounce from booth to booth to learn more about the community resources available to them. Even Dodgers’ alum Dennis Powell stopped by one of Vision To Learn’s mobile clinics to show his support!

Each year, this day is a wonderful culmination of the RBI program, reinforcing not only the importance of community, but also what a day of baseball and a pair of glasses can do for a child.
