Vision To Learn, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit which provides free eye exams and glasses to students in low-income communities, announced John Kim will join the organization as Director and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Kim will report to Ann Hollister, Executive Director of Vision To Learn.

Vision To Learn Founder and Chairman Austin Beutner said, “It is my pleasure to welcome John to Vision To Learn, especially at such an exciting time for the organization. John’s a terrific person and embodies all of the values of Vision To Learn.”

Mr. Kim comes to Vision To Learn after 18 years at Harvard-Westlake School, where he served as Middle School Dean, science teacher, water polo coach, and Admissions counselor. Mr. Kim is an enthusiastic educator who relishes the opportunity to continue advocating for children and families, as well as expanding his work with schools and fellow members of the education community. Before his time at Harvard-Westlake, Mr. Kim worked for five years as a research fellow at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

John said, “I’ve known Austin and Ann for years and look forward to working with them to build this great organization. I know first-hand that kids can’t learn if they can’t see. Vision To Learn’s mission to provide every kid the glasses they need to succeed in school and in life is spot on.”

Ann Hollister, Executive Director of Vision To Learn, added “We’re growing by leaps and bounds and I know John will be the perfect person to help us build an organization capable of serving even more kids in the years to come.”

Vision To Learn started with one van in Los Angeles in 2012, and now serves students in 176 cities, from Honolulu to Baltimore, becoming the largest program of its type in the nation. In the past five years, Vision To Learn has helped screen 430,000 children, examined more than 80,000, and provided almost 65,000 with glasses, all free of charge.
