Arsht-Cannon Fund Supports Vision To Learn’s Work in Delaware

July 18, 2019

Arsht Cannon FundVision To Learn is pleased to announce support from a leader in Delaware philanthropy – The Arsht-Cannon Fund – that will help hundreds of Delawarean students succeed in school, and in life.

The $15,000 grant will support Vision To Learn’s program in Delaware public schools, providing students in predominantly Hispanic low-income communities with free eye exams and glasses. Vision To Learn’s trained eye care professionals help students using a mobile eye clinic that travels to school sites and community organizations. To date, Vision To Learn has helped over 10,000 Delawarean students.

Vision To Learn President Ann Hollister thanked the Arsht-Cannon Fund for their continuing support, “The Arsht-Cannon Fund was one of Vision To Learn’s first supporters in Delaware, and helped our organization get established in the state. This grant will help Vision To Learn bring critical vision care services to over 150 students in low-income Hispanic communities of Delaware who need glasses to see the board, read a book, or complete their homework.”

Arsht-Cannon Fund Executive Director Dr. Christine Cannon said, “The Arsht-Cannon Fund is proud to support Vision To Learn’s program in Delaware, and provide access to vision care for Hispanic students who otherwise would go without glasses at school. The ability to see, to read, and to learn is life-changing for these students. Their success is ours!”

Vision To Learn provides students in need with free eye exams and glasses, using a mobile clinic that travels to school sites. In addition to serving schools throughout Delaware, Vision To Learn has helped students in 12 states, from Honolulu to Baltimore.

Approximately one in four students has an untreated vision issue, according to the American Optometric Association and Vision To Learn’s own vision screening data. This issue is particularly prevalent among students in low-income communities.
